The Filtration SystemThe filtration system, which recirculates and filters the water in the swimming pool, is the only essential pool equipment. It enables you to use the initial water supply over and over again, adding just the little water necessary to backwash the filter and compensate for evaporation and splash-out.The filtration system is composed of four elements: the filter, a pump and motor, an automatic surface skimmer, and recirculating piping. All the materials used should be corrosion resistant – certain types of stainless steel, bronze, plastic, or other nonferrous material. The pump circulates the pool water through the filtration system, mixing the sanitizing chemicals and, if the water is heated, distributing the heated water evenly.
