Portable Pools

A popular alternative to a permanent pool is the portable, above-ground, vinyl-lined pool. Close to a million of these are now in use.

Portable pools require no excavation, cost far less than a permanent pool, and are easily assembled and dismantled. For these reasons, people who don't want to make a big investment in swimming, families that want to try a pool first before making a commitment, and people who live in rented homes especially appreciate them.

Portable pools sit on the ground, and most have equal depth throughout. They may be circular in, or rectangular or oval.

Construction materials consists of self-supporting walls of galvanized steel or aluminum with interior vinyl liners. The bottom of the liner sits on a shallow bed of sand. The outer panels of the walls are often attractively colored and decorated..

You can choose a pool with or without decking. The decking can range from a sitting area on one side to one that surrounds the pool and is wide enough for patio furniture. The decks are railed for safety. Access to portable pools is by a ladder or steps supplied with the pool.

The height of the pool from the ground is an built-in safety feature – removal of the access ladder or steps effectively keeps small children from entering the swimming pool.

Filter units, either sand, diatomaceous earth, or cartridge are specially designed for use with these pools. The skimmer generally is built in but may float on the surface. The support system, including filter, pump, skimmer, valves, and piping, is usually supplied as a package with the swimming pool.

Installing a portable pool from a packaged kit can be a rewarding experience. Or., if you prefer, you can have the dealer install the pool. The portable pool can be dismantled and moved to a new location, an added attraction for mobile families. And because they're portable, you do not pay tax for these pools as real property.
