Guide to Swimming Pool Construction
The Two Phases in Swimming Pool Construction
Think of swimming pool construction as being divided into two main phases – the building of the basic shell that holds the water and the application of the finish and trim.
Building the swimming pool shell is by far the most crucial element; it will determine both the usefulness and the longevity of your swimming pool. The engineering, design, and skilled work required leave no room for short cuts or economizing that could result in maintenance problems or actual failure of the swimming pool.
On the other hand, choosing and applying the finish does permit some variation. In plaster or paint, tile, coping, and decking, you can select materials for economy, color, and personal taste. But be sure never to compromise on the construction methods. Finish and trim should be applied with the same care used to build the basic shell. In addition to being decorative, some of these finishing touches contribute to the structural integrity of the swimming pool.
This is not a How-To-Build a Swimming Pool Manual
This section is not build-it-yourself construction manual. Rather, it will guide you through the construction process so you can better understand what's going on while the swimming pool builders are at work. You may find variations in these procedures because of climatic conditions, special structural requirements, and differences among contractors.
